The short version

Effective October 6, 2026

(the "Site") is a community website run by its owner and hosted on Wizbang Sites. "We" and "us" mean the people who run the Site together with Wizbang Sites, which provides and hosts it. The full documents below are what count. This is the gist:

Terms of Use

Effective October 6, 2026

1. Agreeing to these terms

These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and us about the Site and everything on it, including the Board, General and watch party chat, the Trade Post, the Directory, the calendar, member pages at this site's /@name addresses, and the Site's emails. By using the Site you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy and the community rules. If you don't agree, please don't use the Site.

2. Who can join

• You must be 18 or older to create an account. Guests of any age may browse public pages, but the Site is not meant for children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
• One account per person. Give us a real email address you control, keep your password private, and tell us right away if you think someone else got into your account. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
• You can't join if we've removed you before, or if you're barred from using services like this one under the law.

3. What you post

• You own it. Threads, replies, chat messages, photos, reviews, listings, trades, creator pages and anything else you put on the Site ("Your Content") stay yours.
• You give us permission to show it. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, display, format and share Your Content on and through the Site, and to feature it when we promote the Site (for example, quoting a great Board thread in the Site's newsletter or on social media, credited to your handle). This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies already shared, content others have quoted or replied to, and backups that roll off on their own.
• You're responsible for it. Only post what you have the right to post. Don't post anyone else's private information, photos you didn't take without permission, or anything that breaks the law or the community rules.
• Feedback. If you send us ideas or suggestions, we can use them without owing you anything.

4. Things you can't do

• Break the law, or help someone else do it.
• Harass, threaten, bully, or stalk anyone, or post hate aimed at people for who they are.
• Post someone's private information (home address, phone number, workplace, photos of their kids) without their permission.
• Post sexual content, graphic violence, or anything involving minors in a sexual or exploitative way. We report child exploitation to the authorities.
• Spam, run schemes, or post fake reviews, fake vouches or fake listings, or review your own business or a competitor's.
• Pretend to be someone else, or a business you don't represent.
• Upload viruses or malicious code, try to break into the Site or other people's accounts, get around our limits, or scrape, copy or harvest data from the Site with bots.
• Cheat at games or points, or make extra accounts to boost yourself.
• Use the Site to advertise without being a labeled sponsor, outside your own listing or member page.

5. The Trade Post

• The Trade Post is a bulletin board between members. We are not a party to any trade, sale or giveaway, doesn't check items, and makes no promises about anything listed or about the people you meet.
• Meet in a public place, bring a friend, trust your gut, and never send money to someone you haven't met. Fair Trader badges show what other members confirmed. They aren't a guarantee.
• Don't list anything illegal to sell or trade, recalled products, stolen goods, prescription drugs, alcohol, tobacco or vape products, live animals for sale, or firearms, ammunition or weapons. We may remove any post for any reason.

6. The Directory, vouches and reviews

• Listings come from members, from the businesses themselves, and from public sources (some list data comes from OpenStreetMap contributors). We try to keep them accurate but don't promise they are.
• Vouches and reviews are the honest opinions of the members who wrote them, not of the Site or Wizbang Sites. We don't endorse any business, and we don't verify the work or claims of any business or creator.
• Reviews must reflect your own real experience. Don't offer or accept anything in exchange for a review or a vouch, and don't review a business you own, work for or compete with.
• Businesses can claim their listing for free and keep it up to date. A business can't pay to remove an honest review or to rank higher. Rankings come from members' vouches.

7. Member pages

• Members who meet the page rules can make a free page at this site's /@handle address. We decide the rules and may change them.
• Your page has to follow these Terms. We can hide or remove a page that breaks them, and a page may be hidden if it stops meeting the rules.
• Web addresses on the Site belong to the Site. Handles can't be sold or transferred.

8. Points, ranks, badges and games

Points, ranks, badges, high scores and standings are just for fun on the Site. They have no cash value, can't be bought, sold, traded or exchanged for anything, and we can change, reset or remove them at any time, including taking away scores or points we believe were earned by cheating. If we ever run a contest with real prizes, it will have its own official rules.

9. Watch parties, videos and other sites

Watch parties and member pages play videos and audio from YouTube, TikTok, Vimeo, Spotify, SoundCloud and similar services. When you play them, those services' own terms and privacy policies apply. Links to other websites, including sponsors, are there for convenience. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for them.

10. Private messages

Private messages are between you and the person you're messaging. We don't read them, except when one of you reports a message to us, when we need to investigate abuse or keep someone safe, or when the law requires it. Don't use messages to send spam or anything that breaks these Terms.

11. Moderation and ending accounts

• We may remove or hide any content, limit features, or suspend or end any account at our discretion, especially to protect members, the Site or the law. We'll usually explain why, but we don't have to.
• You can stop using the Site and delete your account any time from your account page.
• Sections that by their nature should survive (like ownership, the license you gave us for content already shared, disclaimers, limits on liability and disputes) still apply after an account ends.

12. The Site is provided "as is"

The Site is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don't promise the Site will always be up, error-free or secure, or that anything posted on it is accurate. Use what you find here, including listings, reviews, trades and advice, at your own risk and judgment.

13. Limits on our liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the people who run the Site and Wizbang Sites won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, goodwill or anything arising from your use of the Site, from other members' content or conduct, from trades or meetups, or from businesses or creators you find here. Our total liability for any claim about the Site is limited to $100. Some places don't allow some of these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

14. If someone makes a claim because of you

If you break these Terms or the law, or your content gets us into a legal dispute, you agree to cover the reasonable costs and losses that result, including reasonable attorney's fees.

15. Disputes and the law that applies

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of West Virginia and applicable federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before filing any claim, please contact us through the contact form and give us 30 days to try to work it out. Any lawsuit about the Site must be brought in the state or federal courts serving Jefferson County, West Virginia, and you and we agree to those courts' jurisdiction. Small-claims cases can be brought in any court that has jurisdiction.

16. Changes

We may update these Terms as the Site grows. We'll change the date at the top, and for big changes we'll put a notice on the Site or email members. If you keep using the Site after changes take effect, you accept the new Terms.

17. Everything else

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and community rules, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Site. If part of them turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce something right away, we haven't given up the right to. You can't transfer these Terms to someone else. We can transfer them if the Site changes hands.

Privacy Policy

Effective October 6, 2026

What we collect

We don't ask for your real name, birth date, home address or phone number. We count sponsor views and taps, member page visits and similar things as totals only, not tied to you.

What we don't do

• We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising.
• We don't use advertising trackers, analytics cookies or ad networks.
• We don't show your email address to other members or to sponsors.

Who can see what

• Anyone: your handle, area, profile photo and bio, your member page if you publish it, your listings, thread titles, and high scores.
• Signed-in members: your replies, chat messages, trade comments, reviews and guestbook notes.
• Only you (and the person you're talking to): your private messages, favorites, email address and email settings.
• Our moderators: anything that's reported, and hidden content, so they can keep the Site safe.

Companies that help us run the Site

We use a few service providers. They handle data only to provide their service to us:

• Wizbang Sites: hosts the Site and runs it on the services below.
• Supabase: database, sign-in system and photo storage.
• Cloudflare: web hosting and delivery.
• Resend: sends the Site's emails.
• Google Fonts and jsDelivr: deliver the Site's fonts and code. Like any website request, they see your IP address.
• YouTube, TikTok, Vimeo, Spotify, SoundCloud and similar services: when you view or play their embedded videos or audio on watch parties and member pages, those companies may collect information and set cookies under their own privacy policies.

We may also share information if the law requires it (like a valid court order), to protect someone's safety, to investigate fraud or abuse, or as part of a transfer if the Site changes hands (the new owner would have to honor this policy).

Cookies and storage on your device

We use your browser's storage to keep you signed in, remember "keep me signed in," and remember small preferences (like a menu you left open). That's it. No tracking cookies. Embedded videos from other services may set their own cookies when you play them.

Emails

• Account emails (sign-in links, password resets, confirmations) go out as needed while you have an account.
• Site news goes to members now and then. Turn it off on your account page or with the link in any of those emails.
• Email lists are opt-in only, with a confirmation email first. Every one has an unsubscribe link that works in one click.

How long we keep things

• Your account and content stay until you delete them or your account.
• Deleting your account removes your profile and what you posted: threads, replies, chat, trades, reviews, vouches and messages. Directory listings you added for a business stay up without an owner, because they belong to the community record. If you've unsubscribed from email, we keep that one fact so we never email you by mistake.
• Copies in backups and security logs are deleted on their normal schedule, usually within about 30 days.

Your choices and rights

• See and fix: edit your profile, posts and settings any time.
• Download: get a copy of your data from your account page.
• Delete: delete your account from your account page, or ask us to.
• Stop emails: one click, in any email or on your account page.
• Ask us anything: use the contact form. We'll answer within 30 days. If you live somewhere that gives you more privacy rights, we'll honor those requests too.

Kids

The Site is for adults. Members must be 18 or older, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it promptly.

Keeping it safe

The Site uses encrypted connections (HTTPS), scrambled passwords, and database rules that limit who can see what. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password you don't use anywhere else. If we ever learn of a breach that affects your information, we'll tell you as the law requires.

Where your information lives

Wizbang Sites operates from West Virginia, USA. Its providers store data in the United States and may process it in other countries where they operate.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For changes that matter, we'll post a notice on the Site or email members first.

Community rules

• Disagree with ideas, not people. No name-calling.
• Welcome newcomers. Everybody was new somewhere.
• No doxxing. Never post where someone lives or works, their phone number, or photos of their kids.
• Keep it honest. Real reviews, real trades, real listings. No selling junk you don't have.
• No hate, threats or harassment. Disagree all you want. Don't go after people.
• Keep it clean. No sexual content, no gore.
• Report, don't retaliate. Use the report links and let the moderators handle it.

Break the rules and your posts can come down. Keep breaking them and you lose the ability to post here. The full rules, with examples, are on The Board.

Copyright & DMCA

The Site's name and logo belong to its owner. The site design and software belong to Wizbang Sites. Member content belongs to the members who posted it. We respect copyrights and respond to notices under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).

To report copyright infringement

Send a written notice to our designated agent (below) that includes:

1. Your physical or electronic signature.
2. A description of the copyrighted work you believe was infringed.
3. The link(s) to the material on the Site you want removed, with enough detail for us to find it.
4. Your name, mailing address, phone number and email.
5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use isn't authorized by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
6. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act for them.

If your content was removed by mistake

You can send a counter-notice to the same agent with: your signature; a description of what was removed and where it was; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification; your name, address and phone number; and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if outside the U.S., any judicial district where Wizbang Sites may be found) and will accept service from the person who sent the original notice. We may put the material back in 10 to 14 business days unless the complaining party tells us they've filed a lawsuit.

Repeat infringers

We remove the accounts of members who repeatedly infringe others' copyrights.

Designated copyright agent

Knowingly false notices or counter-notices can make you liable for damages, so please be sure before you send one.

Sponsors & reviews

• Sponsored spots are always labeled, with words like "Sponsored," "Local sponsor," "Partner" or "Affiliate link." Labels like "Staff pick" or "Local love" mean the Site is pointing to something it likes, with no payment.
• Affiliate links: some links may earn the Site a small commission if you buy something, at no extra cost to you. They're labeled "Affiliate link."
• The Directory isn't for sale. Listings are free. Businesses rank by how many members vouch for them, never by payment. Sponsors get no say over reviews, vouches or rankings.
• Reviews are real. We don't write, buy or edit reviews, and we don't remove honest reviews because a business asks. We do remove reviews that break the rules, like fake reviews or ones posted by the business itself.
• Sponsors never get your personal information. They see totals only: how many times their spot was shown and tapped.
• Sponsor spots never appear on member pages or in private messages.

Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to use the Site. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA. The Site works with keyboards and screen readers, keeps text readable at large zoom, and holds moving backgrounds and animations still for anyone who has turned on "reduce motion" on their device.

Some things still aren't perfect, especially videos embedded from other services. If something gets in your way, tell us through the contact form with what page and what happened. We'll fix it or find you another way.
